Blake Lively Speaks Out About Taylor Swift's "Terrifying" Concert Threats
View Date:2024-12-23 12:04:37
Blake Lively is speaking now about Taylor Swift’s canceled concerts in Austria.
Days after Taylor’s three-night stop in Vienna was called off amid the news that authorities had foiled an apparent terror plot at her shows, the singer’s longtime friend shared her reaction to the ordeal.
“Oh, my gosh. I mean, how terrifying,” the Gossip Girl alum told Access Hollywood Aug. 8. “But thank goodness that they are completely on top of that.”
Three arrests have been made in connection to the alleged plot to attack major events in Vienna, including Taylor’s Eras tour. The prime suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian man, was taken into custody Aug. 8 along with a 17-year-old Austrian man. The Head of Austria's Directorate of State Security and Intelligence Omar Haijawi-Pirchner told the press that the 19-year-old had planned to kill himself and a “large” number of people during the event.
A third suspect, an 18-year-old Iraqi citizen, was also taken into custody Aug. 8, according to officials. Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner alleged during an Aug. 9 press conference that the 18-year-old suspect had pledged allegiance to ISIS and, although he is "not currently linked directly to the planned attack on the concert," the official noted that "his arrest underscores the broad scope of the ongoing investigation."
Amid the investigation, organizers of Taylor’s Eras Tour issued a notice that her three concerts in Austria—set to take place Aug. 8, 9 and 10—had been canceled with tickets being refunded.
"Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium," event organizer Barracuda Music wrote on Instagram Aug. 7, "we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for everyone's safety."
And while Blake—who shares kids James, 9, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and Olin, born in 2023, with husband Ryan Reynolds—was not scheduled to attend the shows in Austria, she has previously shown support for Taylor by appearing at other stops on her Eras Tour. In fact, the It Ends With Us actress and her three daughters—who call Taylor their godmother—received a special shout out from the Grammy winner during her May 29 show in Madrid before her performance of “Betty.”
